i went to spain a couple of years back and on our last day there we noticed a sign for weddings abroad and it gave me and my boyfriend the idea. we have booked up for marmaris, turkey, next year and im wondering if i could just go and find someone to marry us. we just want to go, find someone and get married. do you need special papers etc to do it? do i need to do anything in the uk before hand? we dont want to go through the travel agent because it costs too much.

Hi Jemma,

Turkey’s a great place to get married – if you want some help with the organisation you can hire a wedding coordinator in resort who will be able to make sure everything goes to plan, and it’s not expensive either.

This wedding planner might be able to help you sort out the paperwork http://www.marryabroad.co.uk/country_details.php?country_id=5, and all the legalities are on this page too.

Have a great wedding, I’m sure you will have the time of your life!
Steph

You could use Google to find wedding coordinators there, and call or email them directly. Also try contacting their agency or bureau of tourism for help.

Turkey will be such a fantastic place to get married, it’s a beautiful country, I really love it.

Will need to have the following before you get married there:

Certificate of No Impediment, which has not been issued more than three months prior to your wedding day – you have to get this in the UK.
A Full ten year passport with minimum validity of six months.
    A Full Birth Certificate.
8 passport sized recent colour photographs.

Also if you have been divorced, widowed, changed your name by deed poll you will need other relevant documents.

I would recommend using a wedding planner just for the legalities side – I think it would be worth paying someone to organize the official ceremony – as this is the part you don’t want to get wrong!!
